According to the BBC, a suspected suicide attack in southern Afghanistan has killed at least 17 civilians and four police officers. The attack reportedly took place at 10.30 am in a market in the Deh Rawud district of Uruzgan province and involved the bomber on a motorbike striking a police vehicle.

Such an attack is an almost archetypal: taking place in the morning and involving the direct targeting of security personnel in a context which facilitates access by the bomber and where elevated civilian casualties (and socio-economic infrastructure disruption) are likely.
