The All Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) on weapons and protection of civilians held its Annual General Meeting on 22 January 2013, and will continue its work for a second year.

The group’s priorities for the year ahead include supporting efforts for an effective global Arms Trade Treaty, calling for greater controls over the use of explosive weapons in populated areas and for casualties of war to be recorded, as well as supporting a preemptive prohibition on fully autonomous weapons.

Martin Caton MP (Lab) was re-elected as Chair, Lord Dubs (Lab), Lord Elton (Con) and Caroline Lucas (Green) were re-elected as Vice-Chairs. In addition¬†two new Vice-Chairs Nia Griffiths MP (Lab) and Hywell Williams MP (Lab) were elected.¬†Tessa Munt (Lib Dem) was elected as Secretary. Article 36 will continue to support the group as needed in an informal and voluntary basis.
